William & Kate
So let me tell you a little about my trip to England. When I was a senior in high school, I had the opportunity to go with my Grandmother to visit family in Bath. Along the way, we spend a day in London seeing the sights. I have been to all of the tourist attractions. Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, Westminster Abby. The richness of this place, the culture, the all out tradition and pride. It truly was amazing. I only wish I could go back and savor it, as I was a senior in high school and unaware of what was before me.
And so, through the course of the past ten years or so, I have had an odd interest (Obsession) with British Royalty and the history and SCANDAL that is much of their family tree. And, because I grew up during the Princess Diana time, and am close to the same age as Prince William, I have always had my ears and eyes open to this family.
And so this is why I am sitting here watching the Royal Wedding live. At 4:26 am. And I actually got up at 2:00 for all of the pre-wedding arrivals. This is history. This is tradition. This is fabulous.
I only hope that for the sake of Kate and William, that they are able to enjoy each other and have a relationship. I watch her go down the aisle and I can't imagine saying yes to what she is about to become. Unlike William, she is choosing this life. He has no choice, and yet, he handles himself well. I couldn't imagine having to be advised on every waking minute of my life. Becoming a fashion/cultural icon just because of who you are marrying. But, Kate my friend, if this is something that is your desire, then you go girl! You rock that palace!
And in the words of my 87 year old Grandmother, who is from England, when asked what she thinks of Kate. "Well, she's just a commoner...so I guess we'll see!"
